Memories
Several good memories came up on today’s Facebook memories.
We have a movie theater on Main Street that used to do what was called Tuesday night Dinner and Movie. They would do older movies everything from old classics like North by Northwest, to movies that were a few months past the release date. We saw Guardians of the Galaxy and Rouge One when they were just a few months after the big release. This movie theater would do dinner and movie where if you came in with a receipt from Main Street businesses you got 2 free tickets to the movie. What most people did was dine on Main Street and then go to the movie because it was called Dinner and a Movie. It was a good weeknight date night that we did so many times throughout our 17 years.
We love movies and love spending time in the Main Street businesses. In 2011, they had the movie Serenity. The movie came about because of the cult following of the TV show Firefly. Michaela and I were big fans of the TV show and the movie we had seen several times and even at that point owned the DVD, but were up for seeing it on the big screen again. It was a good decision as our town has lots of Firefly fans so people dressed up as characters in the series/movie. We saw Browncoats like Mal and Zoe, Kaylee with her umbrella, Jayne with his hat, and Shepard Book. It was just a good movie to see with other fans of the movie. A good date night. I don’t remember where we went for dinner before, but definitely remember the movie. Everyone calling out lines and laughing and crying in the same parts we always did too.
The next memory from today deals with another fun date thing Michaela and I did. We traveled quite a bit for her work. We traveled all of the USA because of it, but in 2019 we went to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Michaela and I became board game obsessed in late 2016. When we visited other towns, we always looked up to see if they had board game cafes or at least board game stores so that we could have some quality down time from work and traveling. Tulsa has this great place called Shuffles. It showed we went there in 2019.
I remember the food we had was so good, but their game library was so impressive. We played 2 games. Because I am a nerd, I keep track of board game plays. We played Railroad Ink and Flamme Rouge. Michaela really wanted to play and own Flamme Rouge, but it was out of print at that time (think they did a reprint of it as some point.) After playing it there, we always kept our eyes open at the places we bought used games to see if could find it as she loved playing it. We did end up finding it several months later. We also ended up with Railroad Ink, but bought it when we got back at our local game store.
We went to another game place while Tulsa. We went to Covenant. It was a nice happenstance that Michaela followed their owners YouTube channel.
Somedays it feels like memories are slipping away from me so glad I have these reminders of all the amazing adventures I had with my love.
